ASFA DATABASE

The The Aquatic Sciences and Fisheries Information System (ASFIS) is an international cooperative information system for the collection and dissemination of information covering the science, technology, management of marine, brackishwater and freshwater environments. The ASFA- The Aquatic Sciences and Fisheries Abstracts Bibliographic Database is the principal information product or module of the ASFIS system, therefore the two terms ASFIS and ASFA are often used interchangeably, because ASFA is the sole remaining information module of the ASFIS system. The ASFA Database contains more than 1.3 million Bibliographic references (records) or world's aquatic science literature accessioned since 1971.

Vison: A world in which sustainable and responsible use of fisheries and aquaculture resources makes an appreciable contribution to human wellbeing, food security and poverty alleviation.

Mission: To strengthen global governance and the managerial and and technical capacities of members and to lead consensus- building towards improved conservation and utilization of aquatic resource.

The Department aims to make a significant contribution to the attainment of millennium development goals and the targets set by the World Summit on Sustainable Development and the World Food Summit.

ASFA Database Software has been developed by the Bioinformatics Centre where the ASFA Database is made available to all the users.
