Department of Fisheries Extension, Economics and Statistics (FEES) :
Brief overview of the Department:
The Department of Extension and Social Sciences was created in 2015 under the College of Fisheries, CAU (Imphal), Lembucherra, Tripura by merging the two erstwhile ‘Departments of Fisheries Extension' and ‘Department Economics and Statistics' which had been in existence since inception of the college in 1998. Apart from imparting teaching at UG, PG and Ph.D. level, the department has also been offering Masters’ programme in 'Fisheries Extension' since 2010. Besides that, the department is also involved in need based research in the field of fisheries in particular and rural development and dissemination of farm information to the intermediate and end-users in general. In the line of the research findings for the rural community for the improvement of fisheries and efficient utilization of resources, the department is involved in different extension activities and other outreach activities of the college. The department also conducts different need based training and capacity development programmes on ICT tools and techniques for enhancing the competencies of different extension functionaries.
Key Achivements of the Department:
- The department formulates and coordinates for execution of CEAC Approved Annual Extension Action Plan of the College every year.
- The department has been conducting different research projects as per the research thrust area of the college ( externally funded: 4 No and intramural: 7 No)
- The department has so far produced 20 no of M.F.Sc (FEX) students
- 5 number of students from the department has qualified UGC NET so far
- The department has been coordinating the college participation in different Agricultural Fairs organized by CAU and other organization in the Country
- The department has been involved in different Govt. flagship programmes, training need assessment and holding interface/stakeholders meets so as to strengthen convergence programme for the benefits of the farmers of North East Region.
